Computer Classes

The Computer classes are always popular, unfortunately the computers are starting to show signs of age and two of them can no longer be used.  We hope to find replacements somehow.

Two unused computers are no longer working

The computers are not connected to the Internet, they are used for learning to type and educational games etc.  We aspire to become connected at some stage, as it’s a vital part of modern life but we don’t have the budget necessary to install routers and pay for on going internet connection .  Of course we suffer terribly from power outages, spikes and brown outs, something electrical equipment like computers do not like, so often the classes need to be cancelled postponed.

I believe I saw a UPS when I visited (2010), did it stop working? Or maybe it’s not sufficient for this many PC’s.
Do you plan to teach other things besides typing and educational games?

    kind regards,

Yep, there is a UPS but certainly not sufficient for so many PC’s. We have it connected to the 2 newer PC but not the old donated ones. The computer teacher has just finished a word module and has started on spreadsheets last week.

Do you use Skype and have you thought of connecting to a school in another country or within Cambodia . i love the sort of activities you do with the children and thought that the cameras were a brilliant idea. I have taught English as a Second language and trained teachers in this for about 20 years and I can assure you that being billingual is very valuable. However it is essential that the childen delvelop their mother tongue as well . Language develops in a parallel fashion if they are proficient in language I, language 2 will come more easily. Traditional stories are a great way of developing langauage, perhaps you could persuade some parents to be involved in this.
