Evening Learning

22 Aug

Since reopening our evening English classes we have been inundated with students, and we have been forced to leave some on a waiting list. They will get a chance to attend next term when the current courses finish and new ones begin. We currently run 3 classes, all of which are full. Our teachers Poty and Sophal do an amazing job at structuring lessons around our students needs and levels.

Most our students are in grades 11 and 12 (so around 16-18 years of age), but we are open for anyone older to join too. Support for this age group is the most underfunded in our area, and there are few free programmes/activities for them to engage with. It is a crucial age in life for many students, deciding whether to progress in studies or to find work. These classes offer support and encouragement for these young adults.

By running these classes in the evening we allow students to study outside of their school or work hours. While in class we are able to assess their wider needs and provide support if they are struggling with school or work pressures.

Attendance in these classes helps those students that remain in state school to progress through their English exams. They also receive a certificate on passing their course which can helps them find gainful employment on completion of their studies, as English langue proficiency is still a very desirable skill here.

The students themselves are so polite and hardworking. A real pleasure to be around. We are sure whatever they decide to do after their studies, that they will be successful.
